RentsForRents

Data sources & attribution

Rent data on RentsForRents is reported by property owners and tenants. The address-only placeholders shown as “No data yet” come from open map data:

  • Address data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL).
  • Overture Maps Foundation (overturemaps.org) buildings, places and addresses themes. Overture’s address theme includes U.S. National Address Database records (public domain), state, county and city open address data (including DeKalb County, GA and Clarke County, GA, CC BY 4.0), and public-domain records. Overture places data is available under CDLA Permissive 2.0, and its buildings theme under ODbL.

Address dots on the map

The small gray dots on the search map are street addresses from open and public-record address-point data, covering all U.S. states. Only records whose license allows reuse are used; anything marked proprietary or restricted is left out. Sources:

  • U.S. DOT National Address Database (NAD), public domain, via Overture Maps (nationwide).
  • State, county and city open address data via Overture Maps and OpenAddresses, used only where the record license is public domain (including California and Florida public-records law), CC0 1.0, CC BY 4.0 or PDDL 1.0. Examples: Fulton County GIS (GA), DeKalb County and Athens-Clarke County (GA, CC BY 4.0), Miami-Dade, Hillsborough (CC BY 4.0), Manatee (CC BY 4.0) and many other Florida counties, most California counties, San Francisco (PDDL), Fresno (CC0), Ada County ID (CC BY 4.0), City of New Orleans (CC0), Lackawanna County PA (PDDL), Waupaca County WI (CC BY 4.0).
  • © OpenStreetMap contributors address nodes and building addresses, ODbL, used to fill areas where open government data is thin (for example parts of Massachusetts, Colorado, Michigan, Oregon, Minnesota, Mississippi and Nevada).

Where an address appears in more than one source we keep one point. Some areas, such as parts of Colorado, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Michigan, Oregon and Nevada, have only partial coverage because the official data there is flagged proprietary or not openly licensed; those areas show OpenStreetMap addresses and the address-only places above. Owners and tenants can list a property to add any address that is missing.

Address dots show only a number, street, city, ZIP and a map position. They carry no owner names, no rents and no other personal information. Some addresses may be missing or slightly off; owners and tenants can list a property to add it.

These placeholders contain only a street address, city, state, ZIP and map coordinates. They contain no information about owners, tenants, rents or any other details.
